First Week on the Road
This first week on the road has been an absolute blur. When you’re traveling like this, the days all kind of blend together into one continuous series of events, and you lose track of the days pretty quickly. Since that night in Buffalo, a lot has happened. I checked out Niagra Falls, visited my buddy Matt Burud out in Michigan, and pushed on through North Dakota into Montana. I hadn’t planned on it, but I went right through Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota—so I stopped and checked it out. It was a beautiful park, and it was cool to see bison up close. They’re really impressive creatures. From Teddy Roosevelt NP, I drove straight to Glacier National Park, stopping for one night in Missoula. It seemed like a really cool town, and some people who I’d met through Instagram put me up for the night. It’s funny, the connections you make through social media. It’s connected the world in really interesting ways, and every time I’ve met up with someone from Instagram in person, it’s been a good experience. I’ve spent the last four nights in Glacier National Park. It’s ridiculously beautiful, and I’ve just been cruising around, going on day hikes, and trying to get some good shots. I can’t believe the wildlife I’ve seen here. A massive grizzly bear walked on the trail right behind me while I was hiking to Grinnell Lake. It definitely got the adrenaline going a little bit. Later that day, while hiking to Grinnell Glacier, I locked eyes with a mountain lion in the woods. It made my hair stand on end—it was only about ten yards away, and staring straight at me. It could have ripped me apart, so I didn’t take any pictures and moved on quickly. Definitely a once in a lifetime kind of experience to see an animal like that in the wild.
I’ve been enjoying the scenery, and living in the moment. I think I’m taking some good pictures. Most importantly, I’m happy and doing what I enjoy most—being on the road and living in the present.
